Find your passion
Often heard advise to find your passion. But what it really means in the professional setting?
Often heard advice to find your passion. I myself said it many times to individuals. Yet if you think for a bit, it is not really actionable, is it? I mean, how someone finds their passion? What is passion even mean?
Honestly, I love playing video games, especially those with an inspiring, deep story. It isn’t really my passion though, it is just a vehicle for learning new concepts, being entertained and so on.
Professionally, passion is the thing that keeps me thinking way after my bedtime. A thing that I can do one more step toward tomorrow, so I can barely wait for the morning to come. It manifests as a vision of the future, one that I would like to live in. It is a goal, that in itself gives motivation to walk the path, to enjoy challenges on the way, instead of dreading every step.
How can you find yours? I don’t think there is a sure recipe for it. I am lucky to just fall into it early in life, being facinated by coding before became ten. With that said, I had to rediscover my passion time and time again, as it changes over time. And it is fine.
Try new things. Just for a bit. You always wanted to draw? Take a pencil and sketch on the first paper you find. Play an instrument? Ask a friend, or go to a music shop and try one with the help of a shopkeeper. Volunteer work, public speaking, and all other professions to discover out there.
And reflect how you feel. This is crucial. If you feel you want more of the same, just for the enjoyment of it. That is a good start. Keep trying until you met your sources of this feeling.
