Joy of disconnect
Abundance of choice is not happiness. Disconnect from our attention deprived world and work by limiting your own choices.
Do you remember when you read a book, a fiction so good, you immersed into and just forgot about the world for a while?
Today’s attention deprived world, watching shorts, replying slacks and teams chats and after endless meeting times, you bring home your work.
Different people disconnect in different ways, but it is definitely harder despite the way you do it. One aspect why, is the abundance of choice.
We are lucky to have so much to choose from, yet it brings a new challenge. Which movie should I watch from the 3+ streaming options? What book should I read from the 100+ options immediately available? And to even buy some.
One trick I started to use lately to lighten the mental burden of choice, is to put the only choice in easily accessible space and put away all the others. For example, the book I read until finished, put on my coffee table. All other books on the shelves, away from me.
Another idea, clear your “watch next” lists and add only one, until you finish it. You never gonna watch all the thousand movies and series in that list anyway, why not start fresh and just enjoy the ride?
Now where was I, “What you are looking for is in the library.” - by Michiko Aoyama. Read it, this is the book you are looking for.
