Meaningful leadership

Leader is who sets a value system, lives it and soft-influences others to follow them. Find those who resonate with you, be a leader or a follower.

The usual meme comes up all the time, the leader pulls the stone in front of their people while the boss sits on it. A funny and interesting reduction, that looks well in lists of wise metaphors.

But what is leadership actually? Run ahead and hope others will follow? And what direction you gonna run? Who to run after? Ah, not helpful.

I have been lucky to serve with great leaders and it formed my view on what it is strongly:

Leader is who sets a value system, lives it, and soft influences others to follow them. But they leave the choice to follow them on others. It is risky, you may end up alone. Locally, you rarely alone with your views on the planet, just need to find those who resonate with you.

First, to find those, you need to build your value system internally. My way is to imagine situations, learn what others did, then decide what I would do in same circumstances. If I have enough examples, I can derive a generic rule to become my value. When I understand my values, decisions become easier when things around me become uncertain.

Discover your values, live them, adjust them if doesn’t work while you stay true to yourself! Enjoy the journey!
